Dog-Friendly Glamping in Wales – Walks, Wildlife & Cosy Stays

If your idea of the perfect holiday includes fresh air, long walks, and your four-legged best friend by your side, then welcome – you’ve found your spot.

Here at Llanthony Castaway, we’re proud to offer dog-friendly glamping in the heart of the Black Mountains, where tails wag, noses twitch, and adventures await at every gate.

Whether you’re tucked up in the The Hut or escaping to the off-grid Dome, you and your pup will find plenty of room to roam, snooze, and settle into the quiet rhythm of countryside life.

🐶 Dogs Are Properly Welcome (Not Just Tolerated)

We know what it’s like to try and plan a trip where dogs are allowed, but not exactly welcomed. That’s not us.

At Castaway, we really mean it – dogs are part of the family, and we love seeing them stretch out in the sunshine or curl up by the fire after a long day exploring.  We have 2 of our very own doggos here at the farm (Flash and Kai are my trusty sheepdogs and our little terrier Tegan can often be seen wondering around with Steve the hubby) so be sure to come say hi!

All we ask is that you keep them on a lead around the sheep (who have very firm boundaries) and that you let us know in advance if your pup’s coming too, so we can make sure everything’s just right.

The Best Dog Walks in and Around Llanthony

You don’t need to go far to find your first adventure – just open the gate.

Here are some of our favourite local dog walks:

  • Llanthony Priory & Abbey Ruins
A short wander down the lane takes you to these magical medieval ruins. It’s peaceful, full of history, and perfect for a gentle leg stretch.

  • Hatterall Ridge
If you and your dog are up for something a bit more dramatic, this high ridge walk offers stunning views across the valley and beyond. Be ready for some steep climbs and sturdy boots (and plenty of dog snacks).

  • Offa’s Dyke Path
One of the UK’s best-known long-distance trails runs nearby. You don’t have to do the whole thing – just follow your nose and see where the hills take you.

  • River Walks and Woodland Rambles
Ask when you arrive, and I’ll point you to some quieter, hidden spots where you and your dog can walk (and maybe paddle) in peace.

What to Expect at Llanthony Castaway with Your Dog

  • Cosy fire pit to warm up after wet walks

  • Treats on arrival (if we know your pup is coming!)

  • Plenty of outdoor walks and space to roam – and we mean plenty!

  • A peaceful, off-grid setting far from traffic or crowds

Don’t Forget…

✔ Bring your dog’s bed or a blanket for inside
✔ Pack towels for drying off muddy paws
✔ Lead (and recall training if off lead is a must) – we are a working farm
✔ Let us know in advance that you’re bringing your dog

A Proper Countryside Escape – For You and Your Dog

So if you’re looking for dog-friendly glamping in Wales, with wide skies, peaceful trails, and a cosy base to come back to – Castaway might just be the place.

There’s something really grounding about walking (and running!) these hills with your dog, breathing in the fresh air, and remembering what it feels like to slow down.

We’d love to welcome you – and your pup – soon.

Stay wild!

Bryony (and Flash, Kai and Tegan 🐾)
