Falling for Monmouthshire: Amazing Autumn Escapes in the Heart of Wales

forumNo Comments

Wales truly is a sight to behold in the autumn months. It’s a season of awe-inspiring landscapes, colourful trees, crisp leaves, and roaring open fires in cosy pubs. Glamping isn’t just for the summer months – it can be a fantastic holiday option for autumn and winter, too. There are so many things to look forward to when glamping in autumn; here are just a few…

Things to Look Forward to when Glamping in Autumn

1) Hot chocolate & marshmallows

Because we all know that toasting marshmallows around the campfire is the best part of camping (or glamping)! Here at Castaway, you can enjoy long evenings in your own private garden and decking, complete with a firepit BBQ. We provide all logs and kindling for the outdoor fire pit, too! So, why not complete your autumn evening with a delicious mug of hot chocolate, best enjoyed whilst toasting marshmallows around the firepit?! Ahhh, bliss!

2) Cosy log burners

The weather here in Wales doesn’t have the best reputation – but no need to worry if the weather is cold and damp outside! Our converted railway carriage is bursting with luxurious touches and home comforts, including a traditional log burner to keep you cosy even in the coldest of months. Snuggle down in the sumptuous king-sized bed with your other half and relax in front of the log burner. What could be better?!

3) Amazing autumn walks

There is something so refreshing about taking a crisp autumn walk, whilst breathing in that cool air and marvelling upon some truly spectacular Welsh scenery. Wales is a great destination for walkers of all ages and abilities – whether you prefer a gentle wander along a leaf-blanketed woodland path, or an energetic trek through the bracken up to the Welsh hilltops, there’s a walk to suit everyone here!

4) Traditional pubs with roaring fires

After a busy day exploring the sights and sounds of Wales, the call of a cosy pub with a roaring open fire is hard to resist. We are situated just a short drive away from some fantastic pubs and restaurants, that are ideal for enjoying a delicious meal around a roaring fire this autumn. Some of our favourites include The Hardwick, The Bell at Skenfrith, The Old Black Lion in Hay-on-Wye, the Jolly Colliers Inn and The Crown at Pantygelli.

5) Peace & quiet (at last!)

Staycations in the summer months can be stressful, with crowded beaches and endless traffic to look forward to. Autumn is a fantastic opportunity to unwind and enjoy some peace and quiet – and there’s no better place to do this than Llanthony Castaway! Dramatic landscapes and ancient farmlands surround you in a blanket of peace and tranquillity here, with only the babbling brook, birdsong, and the sound of wind as your neighbours.

Top Tips when Glamping in Autumn

Autumn is a great time to go glamping and explore all that Wales has to offer. So, wrap up warm, fill your flask with a tasty hot drink, and step outside to discover beauty all around. Glamping offers a much more comfortable alternative than camping – however, there are some essential things that we recommend packing when glamping in autumn:

  • Walking boots – as we’ve mentioned above, a brisk walk is the best way to experience those awe-inspiring autumn colours!
  • Raincoat – because you never know when you might get caught out in the rain here in Wales!
  • A variety of clothing – to cater for all occasions, plus we recommend bringing a few extra layers to keep you warm on those chillier evenings
  • Cosy socks – because there’s nothing cosier than toasty warm feet!
  • Camera – for capturing those beautiful autumn colours when out and about
